Checklist: How To Generate Test Ideas

SmartBear-Generate-Test-Ideas-ChecklistWe are continuing our series of checklists with the support of SmartBear. (Go check them out!)

How do testers actually test something? Where do they get ideas from? We posed this to the software testing community and received a helpful list of creative places to start.

Software testing varies so much that it is impossible to create a conclusive list. But if you use this list for inspiration, you might find a big, nasty bug as a result!

Download the file below.  It’s open. It’s free.

Some items to add to the list:
1- Are error messages informative, in global English, and correct grammatically?
2- Localization and Internationalization testing – what languages does your product support?
3- Are error messages in the correct place? Do users see them on screen or are they captured in a log somewhere?

Thank you for this lovely resource,
I hope one day we will find the way to place all Check Ideas in a collective repository – to which all community members can contribute and benefit from.
It is highly illogical that in each company we write all these common items from scratch, while there is so much in common before going into unique issues of that product or the other.
