Are you LLM rubber ducking?

Read Melissa Fisher's blog post: My rubber duck buddy β€” LLM use case - accelerate your thinking

She uses Co-pilot to get her thinking in order before landing on a test strategy. Very nice indeed!Β

Some reflections and questions pop into my head:

  • The importance of setting context and boundaries so the LLM doesn't go off on one.
  • Are we becoming too comfortable using LLMs as a work buddy where we might've originally sought support from our colleagues and our communities of practice?
  • Accelerate your thinking, don't outsource it.
  • There's value in developing AI agents to ask me plenty of questions instead of just being given the answers. LLM-as-coach anyone?
  • Using the output of a AI rubber-ducking session doesn't stop us from then collaborating with our colleagues or seeking support from our communities of practice.
