The year of 2020
23 Jul 2026
I rarely write ‘serious’ poetry, but this has evolved over the year, and I’m happy with where it ended. I started around May or June and first published it in December 2020.
It was the best of times
They were testing times
The year of 2020
Social distance
NHS persistence
Claps deserved aplenty
Work from home
Watch where you roam
Can you hear me now?
Audio muted
Connection booted
Make it work somehow
Children at home
Grandparents alone
The vulnerable are shielding
Support those caring
Community sharing
Resilience unyielding
Lockdown starts
With heavy hearts
It feels constantly extending
We lockdown again
It’s not the same
But still feels never ending
A microscope
A ray of hope
Vaccines have begun
Stay positive
Test negative
And bring on 2021
