Write about an industry report

A pessimist, optimist and realist are talking about writing. Earlier they discussed writing about a prediction. And they all wondered where they might find some predictions so they turned to industry reports.

Optimist: Industry reports do a lot of research for us and that's why I like them. They spark all sorts of reflections. I like to review them and share my take in written format. I do like a good graph and chart to help articulate my thoughts into words. As long as I credit the report I think it's ok to reference some of those charts in my writing.

Pessimist: Yes but sometimes those fancy looking stats are just that, they are there to get people talking when maybe they are meaningless. I tend to not pay attention to industry reports as they are mostly marketing material for tools vendors.

Realist: It's fine to critique the methodology and the results of an industry report as I think the point is to make what you want of it and write about what you make of it. When I write about an industry report I try to make it practical and compare it to something that's happening at work to see if we're tracking some of the key points. I like to ask myself, "What in this report surprised me? What resonated?" and use those answers to write something.

So writing about something someone else wrote about is helpful. They'll be more on that in a Moment.
