very interesting! i've never been presented with a huge amount of undefined data i had to asses. i would always start with the same question i start with when i test anything though: what does good look like? if someone wants me to test their data, they have to tell me what it is meant to do/express/facilitate so i can develop a framework for passes and fails. i think that fits with what you say.

Sounds like you had a hard time at some points in your career! I can certainly empathise with a lot of these situations! Fortunately, things can also change for the better! And I love being part of that change when it happens.
