Let's talk all things Community of Practice.

In the MoTaverse, we gather with a community focus, to share and learn around all things testing, quality and technology. Sometimes we do this to advance our own personal knowledge; other times, we are also challenged with how to share that knowledge within our teams, and then further across our organisations.

“Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly” — by Gene Lave and Étienne Wenger Trayner

"To me, a community of practice differs from a community of interest in a few key ways, but most significantly so in that it has a purpose. The members of the community commit and invest themselves and their time towards that purpose not only because they enjoy doing so, but because by doing so they elevate themselves as practitioners and (hopefully) the craft they are practicing as a whole." — Drew Pontikis

Both Drew and Rosie have a background in quality and testing, in addition to a special love for all things community building, communities of practice and all things social learning. Drew had the opportunity to lead Community of Practice efforts in PWC. Whilst Rosie has been exploring what community means via her work here, in the MoTaverse in addition to extensive writing and research over at Rosieland.

In this conversation, we are going to explore ideas around communities and learning, yet, more specifically, we'd love to dive into what this means for organisations and how they can think about investing in professional development with a community mindset.

We also hope to answer questions on the day, you can also ask them ahead of time in Slack.
