Testing the Inaccessible.
Where to start with a challenging website. The problems were no owner, lack of focus and many involved with no guidelines were the main issues.
Adam Clarkson took us through a project reviewing a website for accessibility. He shared some tips on where to start and how to give feedback.
Variety of tools used such as VoiceOver screen reader for Mac. WAVE, Pa11ly, Hemingway, Google Lighthouse, and Octopus a site map generator. Someone else focused on content.
Contrast, consistency, text on images, moving elements (text and only activated on hover), interactive images as links, incorrect roles, alt-text as file names, screen reader and visual focus not considered or accessible, dark and high contrast rendered the site unusable, and content was overly explained and complex.
Feedback was broken into higher and lower priority. Contrast, text on images , heading levels, alt-text, and a screen reader user review were higher. Plain English language, put priority content first, pick one style were lower.
Overall decide the pages you really need to reduce noise. The company worked with the charity to help them improve
