AMA Mobile Testing Answer: App performance testing

Have you done performance testing to mobile apps? I am particularly interested on testing the app (UI), not necessarily the backend piece such as APIs. Are there any recommended tools?

Hi Eric,

I haven't done any performance testing specific to native apps.  I have been looking for any tools or reviews, but I haven't found much.  It's another tricky one because "app" doesn't just mean mobile app anymore.

I did find a list on browserstack that actually applies to native apps.  Of course, browserstack lists themselves as #1.  It could give you a place to start, at least.

I did a quick search on MoT and there's a few items that address mobile app testing as well.  I just searched on mobile app performance :)

If you already use something to measure performance on web, it might include an option for mobile apps, too.  For example, DataDog looks like it can be used for apps as well as web performance.  Of course, this is different that performance testing, but if noting else, it can show where improvements are needed.

Sorry I couldn't fine more, but I hope this is a little helpful!
