My thoughts before MoTaCon: Co-owning quality

18 Aug 2026

In this moment: Susanne Abdelrahman
When I first read Susanne's abstract for her talk, "Can we actually co-own quality?", my answer to that question was "well, of course!" It's how my own teams have approached quality and testing for many years. As I kept reading, I thought, hmm. I do realize that I was lucky to be on teams that were allowed to self-organize and focus on ways to build quality in. That kind of unicorn magic is rare. So now I'm curious to know more about what Susanne has seen.

And despite the fact that she has often seen co-owning quality go poorly, she's also had good experiences. I feel like this will be a reality check for me. I'm keen to learn how she faced difficult situations and still was able to engage non-testers in testing and quality activities. Looking back, I've always been able to learn a lot from people in other teams and other organizations, and steal their good ideas! 😄
