We've been making changes to the contribution process that feel good, so thought we'd share:
- To contribute you have to be a Professional Member: this means we will have less submissions, most likely of higher quality, and the ability for us to truly invest in getting to know people. For us this means a more manageable load in a way that aligns with being sustainable.
- We invest in people more than perfect submissions: we can give guidance on submissions, we're more interested in investing in you and good topics.
- We may suggest different ways to contribute: in the MoTaverse we are aware of all the moving pieces that you may not be, you may submit for something, and we may suggest it being better as something else.
- We encourage you to Just Go For It (JGFI): our Contribute page lists the ways you can Contribute as a professional member without permission. Moments are truly like social posts, or even a blog. There is the Observatory, Open To, and our Ask MoTaverse Anything initiative.
- Investing in people means giving opportunity to new speakers: if that is you, do submit, we can help you on your journey, gently, kindly and with a supportive community around you.
- Continuous Call for Contributions (CCC) is now like an inbox: our internal goal is to keep it at inbox zero, in reality this means a max 7 day turn around on responding to requests to contribute. For some events we can't give you a response straight away, but we will aim to give some sort of a response quickly.
- It helps to Fill Up Your MoT Profile (FUYMP): help us to get to know you. A good bio, location and links to other places is a start. Adding Moments is great too. You could also join us on the TWiQ stage. This helps us build a real picture of you.
- Contributing is professional development: yes we're a tech community, but we're also here to learn and help you advance your tech career. Every contribution helps you learn and progress. You earn stars, which is a way to show you are showing up to contribute and learn. You can show this to your manager, or use it in future job interviews. Your future self will thank you, not just for the learning, but for the people you will meet along the way.
- You can contribute with a venue! yes, venues are core for us going forward and being able to do more for less. We're looking for venues to use for Chapter and other smaller scale events (generally 50-100 people).
Showing up is what makes a positive difference to your career. And if you’re out of ideas, dealing with impostor syndrome or just need convincing that you have something to contribute, please send us a message via the website chat. Team MoTaverse is here to help.Â
