Mark here. As Simon is off this week, I’m excited to share some of my community experiences this week, an opportunity I get thanks to Simon’s new newsletter format. And speaking of the new format, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the new format
Being in the OpsBoss role can be both a blessing and a curse sometimes. I find the challenges of helping the team achieve Ministry of Testing’s goals very satisfying. But it does impact my participation with the community sometimes. Fortunately, that hasn’t been the case this week and I’ve had some excellent conversations and collaborations with people this week.
Over the past few weeks, most of my energy has been focused on The Big Call For Papers, encouraging and supporting people to submit to a 2022 TestBash. I’ve had the opportunity to help lots of people with their ideas around what they can talk about, discuss ideas on Slack and have one to one conversations. The goal for me is to make submitting a talk as accessible as possible, so if you’re interested in speaking why not take part in our next abstract clinic? Don’t forget the deadline for all our 2022 TestBashes is 13th March!.
I’ve also been working hard with Diana (EventsBoss) on getting our upcoming Brighton and Edinburgh TestBashX ready. In Brighton, we’re working with Emma Keaveny, whose enthusiasm for our first public event in two years is incredibly infectious. And in Edinburgh, Craig Wylie has been instrumental in sharing his knowledge of the local testing community, and beyond, to help us deliver our first event in Scotland! The activity focused approach for TestBashX is going to be great and will give people the freedom to network and share in a way that is comfortable for them. I can’t wait for them!
I’ve also had fun recording a podcast with Beth Marshall and Simon Prior for TestSphere roulette. As someone responsible for producing podcasts for Ministry of Testing, it was a nice change to be a guest. Simon has created a great format for a podcast that facilitates interesting discussions. If you haven’t already listened to one of the episodes, I highly encourage you to. You can even apply to be on an episode.
Finally, we ran our first Task analysis session to help us create a learning curriculum for automators. Creating a curriculum is a mammoth task Richard (BossBoss), Sarah (LearningBoss) and I have learnt a lot from the discussions about how we approach future sessions. Everyone who volunteers their time is contributing towards creating a truly community-driven curriculum. So if you want to get involved and share your views on automation, come join us for our next session.
So, as you can see, there has been a lot happening. But there is still so much to look forward to this week we have our March Townhall where Richard has some big news to share. There is TestBash Leadership, and my first 99 Minute Challenge to run.
