Forward Deployed Engineers

Forward Deployed Engineers image
Forward Deployed Engineers (FDE) is โ€‹a new hybrid technical role which will trend in 2027, combining systems engineering with client-facing consulting, specifically focused on integrating and scaling AI solutions within enterprise environments. Unlike core product engineers who build standardised platforms in isolation, FDEs operate on the front lines, hence the term ("forward deployed") to embed, customise, and deploy those AI models directly into a client's unique tech stack and data ecosystem.

This will most likely lead the emergence of Forward Deployed QA or a similar job title.ย Just as FDEs are embedded with clients, specialised AI Quality Engineers will likely pair with them on the front lines. They will be responsible for testing the AI against the client's messy, unstructured, and edge-case real-world data that cannot be simulated perfectly in a lab environment.
