Demand for skills in testing IoT architectures is increasing as IoT devices grow in popularity. But what skills do we need? What do we need to know before diving into the brave new world of IoT? And what tools do we use?
In ‘I turned it on with my laptop’ I will share my experiences as a developer and tester of IoT devices over the past year to demonstrate what went well, what didn’t and what I learnt. We’ll learn what is required to get launch you into IoT testing by exploring:
 My own experiences of developing IoT devices and testing IoT devices
 What makes IoT work and it’s architecture
 The challenges we face as testers working with IoT
 Skills and tools testers can focus on to help them with testing IoT

Mark Winteringham is a tester, toolsmith and author of AI-Assisted Testing and Testing Web APIs, with over ten years of experience providing testing expertise on award-winning projects across a wide range of technology sectors, including BBC, Barclays, UK Government and Thomson Reuters. He is an advocate for modern risk-based testing practices and trains teams in Automation, Behaviour Driven Development and Exploratory testing techniques.
