When i first pondered goal setting, following a link that Nataliia Burmei posted on LinkedIn about using AI as a quality engineer, that pulled me into the Motaverse, where i was greeted by a message from the wonderful Rosie, I started to think about my goals, which are rarely expressed openly.
They are more directions of travel, or general aims . So I decided to take up the challenge.
At first it was work goals: there are so many, where do I start, and I'll come back to that in a bit, but then I read a few other's posts.
Ady's and Rosie's both made me think of my own health. You see, I have a degenerative lung condition which now comes with an oxygen bottle if I do anything more than a short walk or having to use my arms and legs at the same time. (Both demand oxygen and it's difficult to express how challenging even standing and cooking can be some days).
So I'm going to start there. I need to lose weight so the burden on my system is lighter, more easily managed. I'm getting over pneumonia which I contracted in November last year following a cold my hubby caught and shared (no blame, colds are tricky wee beasts).
I have a treadmill that's laid silent and unmoving, for a couple of months now, so my first goal this year is to walk again. 5 minutes a day to start with.
It takes one step to change, and then another... you get the idea.
I have other goals that relate to finances as my new permanent role, while amazing and all consuming pays less than my contracting ones did. So this year is about us living within our means and growing our revenue.
So finally, my career goals. The first is to manage my time better so I can start attending TWIQ (formally TWIT) ( love the name change) again.
Every week TWIQ is in my calendar and I try to move the meeting that just won't budge and even if I move it, my Friday is so manic, as I endeavour to finish my work before the weekend, that every minute feels needed. This is the first weekend off I've had in January due to trying to get the January release over the line.
So my goal for the next few months is a simple one, find a way to move that meeting and attend TWIQ at least one a month.
I need to talk to my people as there are so many challenges at work, from fixed SIT and UAT test windows for quarterly major releases. That by the way are never fixed and have extended for all three I've experienced so far. To effective ways to create test data using I hope agentic AI. I know the Motaversers will have the answers.
I look forward to catching you all on a Friday soon.
And to inspire me. A picture of community badges I've earnt in my absence. Thank you Motaverse x.
