A good product is one that is used
13 May 2026
There's nothing like a massive market and technology shift to help us think about what actually makes a good product.
We can get carried away with the details. Testers will say it's down to fewer bugs. Developers will say it's about good code. Or designers will advocate for a great user experience. Of course, these are all important.
But if I were to look at it from a business perspective, a good product is one that is used. If the product, or even the specific feature that is being built doesn't get used, then what good does that do? That is waste that businesses can't justify.
And then if we were to look at how a good product gets used, then we will realise it's a whole team effort. It's not a case of build it and they will come. It's more build it, test it, engage with users, communicate updates, work with marketing...and so much more.
In an AI world, this feels more important than ever. We can build, build, build. But we need to make sure it gets used.
What processes or checks in place do you have that the features and products you are building are being used?
I sense a potential series on "What makes a good product", do join in with me if that sounds interesting. A good product is... :)
