Leading with examples

Leading styles can vary.

One thing that I have always enjoyed doing and find that works is leading with examples, or by example.

This could show up in many ways.

Sometimes it's about our behaviours, setting clear boundaries about what we want to see, or not.

Sometimes it's about doing the work. Trying to do the thing. On our own, or as a pair.

Sometimes it's about highlighting what we appreciate or acknowledging the progress.

We naturally copy and inspire one another. Behaviour shows up in clusters. Innovation comes from being and doing together and seeing the opportunities arise as we do the work.

By doing something, it gives permission for others to do it too.

In that sense, we also have to be mindful about the examples we set out. People will follow bad examples as much as good ones.

If we think about the context of Ministry of Testing, I want to lead by example to not only be a place for testing, quality and tech professionals to discover new possibilities, but also for the world to see what we are building and be inspired by it for their own professional networks.

How we show up is more important than we may realise.
