Planning Ahead - Leading with Quality

During the talk by Jesper Ottosan during Leading With Quality we were given the task or completing sheet entited "What is next for the experienced quality roles". The idea was to fill out the left three fields with 3 areas we would like to improve on or explore over the next six months and then consider what some of the steps to those would be over the next 6 months.
We would then discuss with the person sitting next to us and then agree with them we would connect in 6 months time to see how we got on - in a way having someone to hold us to account for what we put!
For this task I was sitting next to Barry Ehigiator and so we both shared our plans.
I outlined these three areas:
Task Management
We currently use JIRA to manage our tasks but in my discussions within my team we feel this isn't working the best for everyone and needs some refinement. We are also working on some AI skills to better utilise AI and we would like to see how this will fit into some specific JIRA skills that will help us better manage our current sprint and our backlogs.
My first 2 steps towards this will be:
- Discuss and understand what is and isn't working and was is and isn't needed.
- Agree the required adjustments with the senior developer and share with the team
Automation
We need to improve the quality of our automated testing, although we have some right now our current architecture restricts us from easily adding more and enabling the rest of the team to contribute easily as well.
My first two steps here will be to:
- Review the product technical debt/restrictions that are making it hard to develop these more easily
- Review the way in which we are deploying environments to doing this to make deployment simpler and easier. e.g. dedicated machines vs docker
Determine my role with in the organisation.
If you read my moment leading up to LWQ and MoTacon I mentioned we have recently had some changes to enlarge our company and I will be transferring to a bigger testing team. The one box fitted this perfectly as this will be about having good quality conversations with everyone to understand how my role will work going forward.
