Quality is everywhere

Life is funny, a while back, I came to the conclusion that community is pretty much the same as quality.

My mind was blown. Quite literally, woaahhh.

Of course, not all the same, but so many of the core principles of community align with where quality engineering now is. It was at this point that the penny dropped and in my heart I felt like the MoTaverse could no longer focus on testing and quality, it had to step up and be more.

If quality was everywhere, then our community has to be everywhere too. We had to serve tech people, with quality at the heart of our thinking and action. I thought it was crazy to think it was a possibility, but that was the start of taking a steps towards being a tech community.

We're not quite there yet, but we've made progress. We've hosted Leading With AI, we have various Chapters (DevRel, Engineering Managers, Accessibility, Neurodiversity...and more), and we've been interviewing a few people on Into the MoTaverse who aren't quality people.

Our latest episode of Into the MoTaverse with Dr Michaela Greir is a great example. We've known each other for years, through testing, tech and our entrepreneurial spirits. We had a great conversation on code reviews, we riffed and both came away with thoughts on how to improve the building of products processes.

And to me this is the key to a better future. Conversations with others, to build bridges, to help us all understand better. It's time to break down the silos. No one has it figured out.

And we're doing it 'bit by bit, day by day', (a quote that is stuck in my head after Nadim Rohani mentioned in a MoT London Talk) because that is probably the only way we know how to build a (quality) product.
