The Beginnings of The Ahh Test

We've been going through big internal transformation at MoTaverseHQ. I wasn't sure how we needed to change, but it wasn't an option not to. Our commitment has been to explore, iterate, and always seek to do better.

As we were doing this, within the MoTaverse, we started to notice a pattern.

When we were gathering, discussing, sharing and planning, we started saying things like:
  • ahh that feels good
  • ahh, I like that idea
  • ahh, I can see how that would be valuable to spend time on

On the flipside, we struggled to make decisions in other situations. I felt the stress, and it was almost like the lack of decisions was hanging around like a bad smell! Not making decisions, or not being able to make them quickly, can be a business killer. Increasingly, I've come to the conclusion that the need to advocate for quick decisions, is not optional. It's a must for survival.

It's not just about speed. The world today is obsessed with speed, which is dangerous if it is not combined with goodness. At top of mind, was the understanding that we had to move faster, but not at the risk of making a bad decision.

Not making good, prompt decisions can have such a negative impact. It can drag down personal and team morale. It stops us from building good products. The business impact can be huge too. Especially in the chaos of the world today, we need to find good ways to make good decisions, quickly.

The more we intentionally moved forward, the more we leaned into the 'ahh'. It felt good. We gave it a name and started exploring what it could mean.

As a result, The Ahh Test was born. I'll share more about that in a Moment.

I worked in an organisation where CEO was openly saying “no decision is worse than bad decision” and we all rolled in with that mindset. It doesn’t mean we need to do bad decisions to justify the saying, but not making it gives us nothing or even damaging.
