Trend Watch: Software Testing was down, but now it and Quality Engineering are on the up.

I thought I'd explore the trend in terms of 'software testing' and 'quality engineering' within Google Trends.

In the MoTaverse we have been making the shift to quality engineering for the past 2.5 years. It just made sense. Quality is everywhere, quality engineering addresses that.

This doesn't dismiss the importance of software testing, it is still core to software development, but to create better products, quality engineering encompasses it more.

We have a SQEC (Software Testing Engineering Certificate) and as part of our journey towards that we also created shorter ondemand courses (Quality Coaching Essentials and A tester’s role in continuous quality). Mix this in with a whole variety of sessions we've done on quality engineering, quality coaching and systems thinking...then I'll take an educated guess that we have the most comprehensive resources on quality engineering.

In terms of Google Trends, it will be interesting to see when quality engineering overtakes software testing. I suspect it will happen in the not too distant future. One to revisit in the future, in the interim, the MoTaverse will continue to advocate for quality engineering, this AI world sure needs it!
