What my first 10k taught me about showing up in the MoTaverse

A few months ago, running 10k felt like something very distant (literally speaking). Not me! I could list every reason why I shouldn't do it: no time, no fitness, no experience, no idea where to even start.

This weekend, I did it!

Somewhere around the halfway point, my legs were heavy and the doubt started to creep back in. I realised the hardest part wasn't the distance, it was deciding to do it in the first place. Everything after that was just putting one leg in front of the other, trusting that the training had prepared me more than I gave myself credit for.

It reminds me a lot of what we ask of people in the MoTaverse.

Submitting thie first piece of content, posting a first Moment, speaking up in a Call for Insights, all for the first time. None of it feels like a big leap once you've done it. But before that first step, it can feel exactly like standing at a starting line wondering if you're ready.

Spoiler alert! You probably are more ready than you think.

Training and doing it doesn't remove the self-doubt. It just gives you enough evidence to run through it anyway. The same is true for contributing to a community. You don't need to feel confident at first. You need to show up and let it build your confidence.

I ran this one for my dad, Filipe. That's not something I planned to write about, but it's the reason the finish line meant more than a medal.

If there's something you've been putting off submitting, sharing, or speaking up about, consider this your nudge: you're probably more ready than you think.

Just go for it! 😉
