Women in Observability London
26 Oct 2026
On my wish list, for quite a while, has been to get better at going to other meetup type events, and conferences too, to be honest. I feel like I have the headspace to do so now.
Last week Simon Tomes and I dropped into the Women in Observability Meetup. It was their first women themed event. Hosted at BNY offices in London. We were very well looked after.
I'm not yet in the habit of checking for Meetups, so I was happy when Marie Cruz pinged the details in our Slack and I realised that I happened to be in London that day.

- Before the Dashboard: Why Product Should Help Decide What Gets Observed. Carol Cheung, Product Manager @ Wireless Logic.
- Monitoring Frontend applications with Grafana and Faro. Roxana Turc, Software Engineer @ BNY.
- Mimir - Evolution of Time Series Database Fiona Liao, Staff Software Engineer @ Grafana Labs.
I've always enjoyed Jit Gosai's way of logging the Meetups he's been to, so a tag to him as a form of recognition that this post is inspired by that.
I have five things to say:
- I felt there's a fair bit for observability opportunity to work better with quality engineering, I kept finding myself wanting to know how observability and QE could collaborate in specific areas
- I have a lot to learn about observability 😆, I am a noob!
- Here are some glossary words that Simon diligently entered from the talks: Time Series Database (TSDB), First Input Delay (FID), Core Web Vitals, Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), Largest Contentful Paint (LCP).
- thank you to Grafana, BNY and the speakers for making it happen. I am now the proud owner of BNY socks!
I think the talks were recorded, but I'm not sure when or where they will appear.
