All Systems Go For TestBashX Bucks 2022!

TestBashX Bucks is just two weeks away and we're getting ready for another day packed with two talks, our famous 99-Second Talks and hands-on activities run by software testing experts in a learning carousel system.

A learning carousel is an active, cooperative learning approach that involves groups of people moving around a space, visiting several learning stations and completing authentic collaborative tasks. Put simply, it’s loads of mini-workshops that you will complete with fellow testers.

So what's happening at TestBashX Bucks on the 14th of October?

Our wonderfully funny Laveena Ramchandani will be our host and will start by inviting Melissa Fisher on stage for the opening talk Tools for the Mindful Tester. In this talk, Melissa will cover some practical tips and tools that have helped guide her when pressure, guilt or fear tried to take over.

Straight after the opening talk, all the attendees will be split into groups and start with the activities:

  • API Testing and Automation with Postman - Led by Arlemi Turpault
    • In this session you will author some test scripts, automate tests, and dynamically control workflows using the collection runner and scheduled monitors - and if you’re still hungry for more you’ll experiment with the CLI collection runner Newman!
  • The Heuristic Challenge
    • In this activity, learners will come up with as many different test ideas as possible in a short frame of time. We’ll then learn how we can expand our ideas with heuristics to help us identify new ideas to expand our testing.
  • Model and Test The Button - Created by Mark Winteringham
    • For this activity, you’ll explore a device using a range of different questions and tools. What you learn will be used to create a visual representation of how the application works. So that you can pick the right testing approaches to learn more.
  • Test Team Roulette - Choose your Ideal Candidate!
    • In this activity, learners are asked to work together to put together a testing role that would describe their ideal candidate to hire. By working together and empathising with different perspectives we'll learn how to find the right person for the job.
  • Let's Go Threat Modelling! - Created by Richard Adams
    • This activity is an opportunity to learn how to adopt threat modelling and what a session might look like, using Richard Adams’s card game. The goal is to show you how Threat Modelling works and also that threat modelling isn't just for security engineers or lead developers. If anything, the tester mindset gives us the advantage.
  • Quality Jenga
    • In this activity, learners are given different roles and a task to create a Jenga tower. As we work to create a Jenga tower that doesn't fall over, we'll learn how collaboration is the key to success.

Last but not least, the day will end with a talk from Lee Marshall, AKA The Pirate Tester, How I Started as a Test Coach. In this talk, Lee will share the journey of how he started to be a test coach, what worked for him, as well as what could have gone better. If you are considering a similar move in your career or didn’t even know it was an option for you, then join Lee as he walks you through his experiences.

And of course, not forgetting the famous 99-Second Talks, our 'cherry on top of the cake' will finish TestBashX Bucks!
