Talk Description

In this episode of Leading With Quality, Rosie Sherry speaks with Anne-Marie Charrett, Engineering Futurist at Telstra. Anne-Marie shares her journey from leading test automation strategy to defining a new role that focuses on advocacy, influence, and building movements for quality across one of Australia’s largest organisations.

Anne-Marie reflects on what it means to lead without boundaries, why traditional titles often restrict thinking, and how creating space for teams and leaders can unlock genuine cultural change. She also discusses the importance of community, emergent strategy, and why quality is everyone’s responsibility.

You’ll hear about:

  • How Anne-Marie shaped her unique “engineering futurist” role
  • The challenges and opportunities of driving whole-team testing in a large enterprise
  • Why job descriptions, interviews, and onboarding are key to shifting quality left
  • The role of community, influence, and humour in leading change
  • Lessons from The Quality Coach’s Handbook and how quality coaching is a form of leadership

If you’re interested in how leaders can bridge gaps, create movements, and influence culture at scale, this conversation offers a forward-looking perspective on leading with quality.

Thank you for the book recommendation. I can see how quality, care and community are totally all interlinked. One of those things that just makes perfect sense as soon as you said it.

I love that Anne-Marie was doing quality coaching workshops at the MoT in 2012 👏. This was an excellent conversation and it has certainly made me think about where my career could go especially if I focus on my strengths. I highly recommend this video 🙌🏻.

Very good points on letting go. It took me many years to thinking recognition is for getting praise for my ideas an initiatives, but the biggest victories are when the people around you take you initiatives and treat them as their own. When you think about it, there isn't better recognition right?
