How do you help those who are looking for a job?

There are people out of work right now and there is uncertainty in many industries. Let's come together as a community and help each other. Here are some ideas.

Create a portfolio of your career. Beth Marshall shares the why and what of portfolios. Take Nicola Lindgren's treasure trove of advice on how to find a software testing job. Post or apply for a job via the Ministry of Testing jobs board. Discover how the tester mindset can help you in your next interview, thanks to Elizabeth Zagroba. Plus, watch and share this career-focused video playlist.

If you see/read/hear that someone is looking for a role, amplify them so they can get in front of more people and increase their chances of getting in front of someone who is hiring. Message and share with a specific person if you spot an opportunity that might be a good fit for the job seeker. Those little bits of thoughtful tasks — a simple like, reshare or direct message — could make a difference.

And for those hiring right now, Sarah Deery wrote an excellent summary of how to interview software testers. It's based on a Dan Ashby Masterclass webinar recording which we’ve made free and available until 27th April 2023. Enjoy!

🙋 Can you help with the following?

  1. What to test when writing automated tests for GraphQL API? asks Abhishek
  2. Have you been using ChatGPT to support your testing? Add to this ever-growing thread of handy examples.
  3. Still no replies for Amílcar 😕. Can you recommend a good way to get started with non-functional testing?
  4. Read or watched something useful about AI and testing? Add to the AI and Testing wiki.
  5. Mahathee would like places to learn about storytelling
  6. Know someone who landed a job in April? Let's celebrate them! 🎉

Have a good week.

📚 Reading List of the Week

We’ve been working hard curating our massive catalogue of articles to help you find the learning content you need. That’s why for the next few weeks we'll feature one of our newly created reading lists — a distraction-free reading experience to support your learning.

The first is focused on Automation. It contains excellent learning about becoming an automator, working with tools, creating strategies and so much more. It’s definitely worth a browse, regardless of where you are on your automation journey. View the reading list on Automation.

And if there are articles that you think someone else may find useful then please do share.
