Let's Mature This Conversation: Growth by Intention
30 Sep 2026
Megan Ozanne's session reframed maturity models for me. Teams grow either by accident or by intention, and a maturity model is the support structure that steers growth in the right direction while making invisible work visible. At its heart are people: what they need, the pressures they face, and the assumptions they make about each other. My biggest takeaway is that maturity is a journey, not a destination. Listening to every perspective along the way is where the real understanding happens.

What an excellent reflection. Thanks for capturing this, Jesse.
How you've described it makes me think about how empathy, care and discernment is more important than ever, if teams are to grow with each other.

That's quite a foundational point, Simon. I think we sometimes focus so much on developing the craft / the engineer skillset that we overlook the human qualities needed to practice it well. Empathy, care and discernment shape how we engage with people, problems and different perspectives, and perhaps that's just as important to maturity as the skills we develop.
