It's not a real MoT tattoo, but it helps me contemplate getting one!

A display stand with a variety of ducks on show. A Postman duck. A silver duck. A cloud duck. A space duck.
What can I say? I've started collecting ducks! I bought a display stand to help them all show off themselves!

How to write visual UI automation tests using graphics instead of complex locator strings image
Where to click and where to look? These are the questions that need to be defined in an automated UI test script. Why not use images to show it, rather than text to describe it?

A book called "Well, that didn't work. An Autobirography." with "by a software tester" is edited into the cover.

What if we had a notebook with a cover said "Well, that didn't work" to encourage us to log the many things that just don't seem to work?

You know you are a tester when the office loses power and everyone looks to see what you did — Quote via Phil Kirkham

We've probably all experienced "that look" that people give you when something goes wrong.

A star certificate meme. Text: Congratulations Frustrated app users for World Testers Day You did it! 09/09/20YY date Testing Professionals signed. There is a smiley star certificate that looks like it's a certificate from a children's party or school.

I've lost count of how many times I hear a random person say, "Why doesn't this thing just work!" It's tiring. Yet I also have an internal wry smile thinking that we testers will continue to improve the world of apps. AI whatever, we'll be alright. 😉 Happy World Testers Day!

Meme template. Two prisoners in a cell. One shares that he killed a man. Another shares he tested in production. This scares the first prisoner a lot.

A lot of the time "testing in production" has a negative connotation and meaning. But once you dig deeper into the source of the fear you will find that different people mean different things by it.

Some people, when they say it, mean: “I ONLY test in production”.
Others mean: “I test before it and I ALSO test in production”.

You want to know if your production is up, running, and happy, aren’t you? This is achieved by testing! It could be performed “actively” by manual exploration or “UI end-to-end” automated smoke tests. Or “passively” by looking at the monitoring dashboards.
But you need to do it and there is nothing wrong with it. :)

The kombucha girl meme. On the left, a woman's face is grimacing. On the right, the same woman's face looks relieved and surprised. Text above both left and right images: been away now reconnecting with the testing community.

Stepping away from the testing community is cool, particularly if you're just not in the place to stay connected and involved all the time. It's also healthy to take a break when you can, even if you're fully committed to being a community member. This meme represents that feeling of returning to a community after time away or time off. A lot can change and it can feel odd. It takes effort to come back yet there's that realisation that it's worth it!

Two-panel software testing meme featuring Bart Simpson from The Simpsons. In the top panel, Bart is depicted wearing sunglasses and using a white cane as if he's blind, with the text 'Testers executing detailed protocols and reporting no more bugs..' The bottom panel shows Bart peering through a large telescope with a surprised expression, and the text reads 'Random user casually reports 10+ bugs on 1st day of production release..' The background settings include a school hallway in the top panel and Bart's room in the bottom panel.

user bugs happen!

Two-panel meme featuring the rapper Drake. The top panel shows Drake wearing a red jacket with a displeased expression, holding his hand up as if rejecting something. The text next to him reads '2015: Test Driven Development.' The bottom panel shows Drake with a pleased expression, pointing approvingly towards the text '2024: AI Driven Development.' The background is yellow in both panels.

At least AI driven development sounds cool 🤭

This image is a meme featuring two panels, each with a different facial expression of the same person. The left panel shows the person with a displeased or disgusted expression, labelled "UNHELPFUL FEEDBACK," while the right panel shows the person with a more neutral or slightly positive expression, labeled "CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK."

This meme humorously contrasts the reactions to receiving unhelpful versus constructive feedback, illustrating the difference in how such feedback is perceived.

It's very easy to be critical, raise bugs and give feedback that doesn't help a team move forward. Always ask yourself if your work will be of value and good use of time, because time is money.
