Asking questions is a useful tool.
What questions do you ask to support your testing efforts? What do you notice when you modify how and when you ask a question? How does your audience modify your approach?
I was fortunate to ask lots of questions last week as I continued my 1-2-1 Belong-O-Meter chats with the community. And questions reveal useful information and surprises. One such surprise is that some folks are yet to find a useful way to connect with others in this community. It helped me realise that we can't always jump to suggestions and share ideas. That we should take the time to understand what it is someone wants from this testing community. To find a way to encourage and support each other in a way that respects where an individual is at in their career and life.
I also discovered a lot of love for the Ministry of Testing community – the many people who make it what it is – so you should feel proud. ❤️
Good to see that every TestBash Mobile talk is now available on the Ministry of Testing platform. Maaike's "Ask Me Anything" with Tristan is a great place to start. It's an excellent conversation. And find out if Richard (BossBoss) tests his mobile in the bathroom during his 99-second talk! 🙈
There's been a wave of meetup talks too. And I have to admit, I'm a bit behind checking them out: Be a Full-Stack Tester with Kristin, Good Exploratory Testing Tactics for Taking Over Testing with Maaret and Quality Coach vs Software Tester with Vernon.
I've been working with Mark (OpsBoss) on what's next for our weekly events. I look forward to the next phase. We've got a new set of community event types which we've experimented with since the start of the year. We'd like to encourage the community to start running their own versions. We'll provide the guides and the platforms to do so. Accessible events lead to conversations. And conversations can lead to action. Keep an eye out for more info coming soon.
Do check out Diana's (EventBoss) recent announcement about the line-up for TestBash Careers. I wish a career-focused conference was something I had available to me at the start of my testing career — and at my key career moments too! I'm looking forward to Maryam's talk. I'm a big fan of how open and honest they are when presenting. Rejection is a complex topic and one we don't tend to discuss enough. See who else is speaking on the 26th of May.
