Debug like a boss: 10 debugging hacks for developers, quality engineers, and testers image
Solve stubborn bugs faster by breaking things on purpose, questioning your assumptions, and thinking your way to clarity.
A cartoon-style meme featuring a blonde elf character pointing at a smiling orange worm. The top text reads: “SELF-SPREADING WORM IN AI EXTENSIONS?” The worm has a speech bubble saying: “NOT ELF – SELF!!” Below, bold text says: “GREAT, NOW MALWARE IS DOING CONTINUOUS INTEGRATION TOO.”

A self-spreading malware called GlassWorm has infected OpenVSX and one VSCode extension (cline-ai-main.cline-ai-agent v3.1.3), enabling it to propagate across systems and steal data. This supply chain attack highlights vulnerabilities in extension ecosystems and raises concerns about security in AI-driven development workflows.

I kept hearing in my head "Elf spreading worm" for some reason.

My team and I were working on a multi-platform automation testing project where validating false negatives after test execution proved to be nearly impossible. Assigning these validations to manual testers was not a viable option, as it would defeat the fundamental purpose of automation testing.

To address this challenge, we designed and implemented a new automation architecture called the AOV Framework (Automated Observation and Validation Framework). This framework enables each test case to store its observations and detailed execution data for every step. In the event of a failure—potentially caused by a false negative—the test can automatically resume from the failed step, rather than restarting the entire suite. If the test passes successfully, the stored observation data is cleared to optimize memory usage.

Additionally, the framework allows false-negative test cases to rerun automatically after the main automation cycle is complete. This approach significantly reduces the system load during reruns, minimizing the risk of application or build instability that might have contributed to the original false negative.

Note: This framework was specifically developed for application feature testing, not for application stability testing.
We have all encountered frustrating scenarios where false negative results disrupt the accuracy of automation run reports. These false ne...
A virtual stage screen for a podcast called "This Week in Quality" features a banner illustration of two cartoon microbes wearing headphones and standing at microphones on a circular purple stage, with planets, stars, and antennae-like figures in the dark purple background. To the right, a list of nine attendees is displayed in dark blue rectangular boxes with their names and initials: Simon Tomes (M...), Neil Taylor, Natalia Burmei, Nadja, Adrian, Christine Pinto, Scott Kenyon, Gary, and Maithilee. The bottom center includes a microphone icon and the text "You are on stage."
We were so close. The limit for the number of people on stage is 10. We got to 9. Next time we need to try for 11 to see what happens. 😃 ...
A diverse group of adults is seated at round tables in a large, bright room with wood-paneled walls and tall, leaded-glass windows, engaging in a discussion or workshop. On a projector screen at the front, a slide titled "Identity in transition"; is visible, showing bullet points about "Self-reflection" and "Generating new ideas". In the foreground, one table is the focus, where several people are looking at each other and talking, with coffee cups, bottles, and papers scattered across the white tablecloth. A man in a light grey shirt stands to the right of this table, speaking or listening intently to the group. The atmosphere appears to be one of collaborative learning and networking. A bug, a space duck and a space seagull character have been added to the image.
Bug, Space Duck and Space Seagull reflect on their influence and impact. But can you find them?
